Grace & Works

Grace verses Works, wow… I hope by now we all know that salvation is a FREE gift from God, right? Many times one side of the Religious coin says that we must some how earn salvation and the other side says we can live like hell and still live for God. Well both sides are off center. I believe there is a balance in God’s Kingdom.

The other day a lady told me, “God doesn’t want us walking up to Him with Spiritual Things that we have done for His Kingdom.” She made a reference that bringing these things to God was a type of works. It is true that our salvation is not based on our works; we could Never earn the gift of salvation! But saying that God doesn’t want us bringing Spiritual things to Him or God doesn’t want us doing Good Works is just short of being foolish. I believe, when we bring to God our offerings He is pleased. Again offering is not limited to money but also our time, energy, and our Good Works. Watch this; it was Christ’s nature to do Good Works right? Then is it fair to say that if we have Christ’s Spirit within us that we will also do Good Works? Good Works is Christ’s Nature and if we truly are Born Again then we have His Nature within us; the nature to do good works!

Now some will say “I try to do good works for the Lord.” Well the problem is you’re trying; Good Works is not about you trying to do good but its Jesus’ good working inside of you and manifesting in the form of Good Works!Grace is not meant to give us an excuse not to bare Good Works. Many Christians sit back and do nothing for God’s Kingdom and use Grace as an excuse for their own Spiritual laziness. James 2:20 says, "... faith without works is dead." So what does that mean? It means if I’m hungry and you have faith - I am still hungry. It is only through your good works in feeding me that Faith truly becomes a witness to me.

If you truly have Jesus in your heart then you will do good works like feed the hungry. Jesus Himself said in -Matthew 25:35-36, "I was hungry and you fed me, I way thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me." Sounds like Good Works to me. So as believers let’s thank God for His amazing Grace and go and do good works that His Kingdom may be exalted!

“Divided we fall / United we Stand”

As I read the New Testament and how the early church was formed, one word keeps jumping out at me; “Unity!!!” Jesus spent so much time trying to unite, bring together, and connect His Disciples one to another forming one Body or One Unit – The Church! Jesus warned His Disciples about division, in the Book of Matthew chapter-12 verse-25 Jesus said, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” (NKJV) That word desolation means; unhappiness, misery, despair, sadness, and depression. Think about it, division births all of these negative afflictions. We’ve heard of the Fruits of the Spirit, but it’s like these are the rotten fruits of the evil spirit of division.

As we look at the postmodern world that we live in, we can see the Church divided against herself! I used to pray that the Pentecostals would learn to fellowship with their Baptist brothers and sisters, but now I would just love to see the Pentecostals learn to get along with other Pentecostals, let alone other Denominations! In our culture we have so many churches forming for the simple fact that Christian folks just can’t get along. What will we do if we get the Heaven? To spite popular opinions Heaven will not be sectioned off! No, there will not be a Pentecostal Heaven, a Baptist heaven, a Catholic Heaven, a Methodist Heaven etc… There will only be ONE Heaven, and we will all be together in one place, worshiping God for eternity with One Voice! The denomination name tags we wear so proudly here on earth will do us no good on the other side, regardless where you go! Think about it, if you go down the denomination name tags will burn off and if you go up the denomination name tags will fall off!

I believe we are living in desperate times! These are times of Great Opportunity for the Local church, Every Denomination, to come together on common ground. That God is God and He is the Only Living God, Jesus Is His Son who died for our sins, through Jesus we can be saved, and through Jesus we can receive God’s power through His Holy Spirit! Can we put our worship styles and church doctrines aside for a while, and seek God’s Glory and salvation for our nation? Jesus Prayed in John chapter-17 verse-11, “that they may be one as We are.” (NKJV)

Last week a Pastor from a Church in Junior (New Convent Church) closed his doors for their Wednesday night church service and brought his congregation over to Haven of Hope to join our Revival service! What a testimony of God’s Heart for His Church! I end this column today with a challenge to the rest of Barbour County Pastors: take this Brother’s lead and let’s join together in Christ and watch God’s Revival Fire ignite Barbour County! Remember the old proverb, “Divided we fall / United we Stand!”

Mothers

The modern Mother's Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis from Taylor County WV, as a day for each family to honor its mother. In 1912, she trademarked the phrases "second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day", and created the Mother's Day International Association. The day is designed for each family to honor their mother before God. Ironically it was about Nine years after the first official Mother's Day, commercialization of the U.S. holiday became so rampant that Anna Jarvis herself became a major opponent of what the holiday had become and spent all her inheritance and the rest of her life fighting what she saw as an abuse of the celebration. Later commercial and other exploitations of the use of Mother's Day infuriated Anna and she made her criticisms known throughout her time.

Anna Jarvis created Mother’s Day to give special Honor to our Mothers, whom so deserve! When thinking about Mother’s Day and looking at the Bible we can see that God commands us to give honor to our Mothers;

12Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (Exodus 20:12 KJV)

In the New Testament Jesus Himself Honored His Earthly Mother with Very High Respect! We know that when a person is dying, it’s the most important things in their lives that they dwell on. In the same light, it was on Jesus’ Cross, moments before He died, that he thought of His Mother! And one of the seven phrases He said from the cross was addressing His Earthly Mother;

26When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. (John 19:26-27 KJV)

This Mother’s Day Sunday I challenge you to obey God’s Word and Do as Jesus did; Give Honor to Your Mother!!! I pray that God would Bless All of our Mothers this week and through the weekend in a special way! Amen.

MINISTRY

Christian Ministry is defined as an activity by Christians to spread or express their faith under the leadership of Apostolic oversight … I have often defined Ministry as “an Overflow of God’s Wisdom, Knowledge, Grace, and Mercy in your own life, and sharing it with others.” Many times I hear the statement in the Religious sector “that he/she is a minister”; over the years I have came to ask this question to that statement, “a minister of what?”

Recently I have had conversations with Buddhist ministers, Wicca Ministers, Occult Ministers, and “so called” Christian faith ministers. All of the above have some kind of credentials declaring them as Ministers. But again I ask, “Ministers of what?” I tell the folks at Haven of Hope that I am a Minister not because I have an REV or PASTOR in front of my name; I am a Minister because God has called me to Minister and under Apostolic Leadership “I Minister – or share my overflow with others!”

About two years ago a gentleman came to me introducing himself as a “Pastor.” When I asked him where he was a Pastor he said, “No where…” Well, a Shepherd is only a Shepherd because he/she has sheep! A Pastor is only a Pastor is he/she has a flock! This is where proper Apostolic Leadership and Oversight comes in to play. You see, not everyone called to the ministry is called to preach or teach! The Bible says, “Some are called to be Apostles, some are called to be Prophets, and some are called Pastors, Evangelist, and Teachers…” I believe that all are called to do something, but all are not called to do the same thing! Some are called to Deacon, Some are called to play Music, and some are called to the arts… See my point? Without Proper Apostolic Leadership we can be led astray and away from God’s calling on our lives! I have seen many good folks walk away from God’s Calling on their lives, to chase a dream of becoming a great Music minister or a Great Evangelist. Greatness can only be found in God’s Will for our Life!!!

Now let me end with some advice for those who believe they have a Call to Minister in their lives! Number One; Find a Pastor – Apostle – Bishop for Yourself! We all need Spiritual Accountability and its VERY Prideful to think differently! Number two; get plugged into a Local Church! If you are truly “Called to the Ministry then you will never need to make room for your ministry; your Ministry will make room for itself!” a quote from Pastor Bryan Lamm… Number three; learn to serve… as a Minister, serving God is Serving Others!!! Learn to Serve the Local Church, Serve Your Pastor, and Serve The Community! Remember, ALL Ministries begin with the “Ministry of Helps!” Number four; learn that your number-one ministry is at home with your family… (Your spouse and kids) I have seen a lot of ministers soar in the ministry but their own family goes straight to hell. If I can’t pray with/ minister to Benita and the girls then I have No Business ministering to others! And last; forget about the titles and prefixes! I was a Pastor several years before I became ordained and licensed. Having papers stating that I am ordained and licensed and/or having a degree in Divinity means nothing unless I’m walking in an overflow of the ministry in my own life and sharing that overflow with others!!!

Now take that Overflow and shine like a light to a dark and dying world!

National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is a day set aside and designated by the US Congress and signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1952 as a day when people are asked to come together and pray, for local government, for State government, and for National government. It was created as a floating holiday in 1952 but set on the first Thursday in May by President Ronald Reagan.

Shirley Dobson (wife of Focus on the Family founder, James Dobson) is currently the head of The National Day of Prayer Task Force, a non-governmental organization. The Task force's website says:

"Americans of all faiths are encouraged to participate in the [National Day of Prayer] according to their own traditions. However, the [National Day of Prayer] Task Force provides promotional materials and sponsors several events in keeping with the Judeo-Christian tradition".

This Nation was founded upon Judeo-Christian Values including Prayer. In 1775, the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming our nation!!! I read a story about a reporter coming into a joint session of the US Congress and looking for President Washington. When he asked someone “Which gentleman was President-General Washington?” the man responded, “The one on his knees leading Prayer!” President Lincoln issued a proclamation of a day of "humiliation, fasting, and prayer" in 1863… It was President Franklin Roosevelt who called for our nation to unite in prayer as American troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in WWII… And just 7 ½ years ago it was President G.W. Bush who asked our Nation to Unite in Prayer after the Sept. 11th Attacks on our country! I remember there after seeing signs in public school yards, Government buildings, yards of Homes, on automobiles, and church yards saying, “God Bless the USA – and Pray 4-our Nation!” WOW how quickly we forget!

On May 7, 2009 we as a Nation will celebrate our 58th Annual Observance of The National Day of Prayer. As a Local Pastor and a Regional Chaplain I join with the Barbour County Ministerial Association inviting all of Barbour County to Unite in Prayer for our Nation!!! These are uncertain times we are living in, and the United States needs above all things for her people to come together before God and in the spirit of our forefathers; seek His Wisdom and His Blessings!!!

Commitment

In today’s society the word Commitment is seen as the ultimate threat. This fear has filtered itself into the Church House and our Christian walk. The word Commitment by definition is: a promise, a pledge, a vow, loyalty, and dedication… Wow, when you think about you can see how the word Commitment is a threat to the humanistic society that the US has become. Humanism is being absorbed by secular concerns and self interest, Christianity is being sold out and totally dedicated to God and not self. See the conflict? The Bible teaches us to kill our selfish desires each day and to renew our Commitment to God and to Our Spiritual Calling. But it seems that today’s culture has taught us not to be too committed to anyone or anything, what’s wrong with us? I ask this; without Commitment what is our society becoming?

In the religious realm this lack of or fear of Commitment has really had its toll on the local church. Christians have developed this lazy attitude that “I’ll Commit to God, I’ll Commit to church as long as it’s on my terms.” Again, being a Christian is all about God and His Terms, not ours!!! If you want to see God move in a mighty way in your life you must first renew your Commitment to Him, then put to rest these Humanistic thoughts that has been leading you down the wrong path.

Ask yourself these questions:

1. Where is the place (Church, Ministry, etc…) that God has called me to?

2. Am I in the place that He has called me to?

3. What is My Commitment to God and the Ministry that He has placed me in?

4. How can I be less Committed to my human desires and more Committed to Gods will for my life?

5. How can I be more Committed to My Local Church, My Local pastor, and the folks in need who live in my community?

As you answer these questions, begin to renew your Commitment to God, Renew your Commitment to Your Local Church / Pastor, and you’ll see your walk with God soar to levels that you can only dream today. Remember, Greater Days are ahead!

Love Ya ALL

Why Not Here

Why not here?

Acts 2:1-4 KJV
Coming of the Holy Spirit

1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

If it happened there; then I ask why not here and if it happened then, then I ask why not NOW? I believe that the first steps to a Real Holy Spirit Outpouring are: #1. The folks have got to be together in one accord! There can be No Separation by color, sex, or religious barriers… #2. Let the 500 become 120… It’s ok the 3000 are waiting! Don’t be afraid when folks leave, there not really with you anyway, God has an army of people who will stand with you and for you as you seek God’s will… #3. Don’t be afraid to wait for it!!! (Even when others are leaving, WAIT!) #4. Be prepared and ready to be blessed…

Acts 2:12-21 KJV
12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Again, if it happened there; then I ask why not here and if it happened then, then I ask why not NOW? In Acts Chapter 2 the Heavens opened up and God poured out His Spirit upon ALL FLESH!!!! So why is today’s church Not Experiencing the same? I ask, Why Not Here in Philippi WV? Why Not Here at an old Skating Rink called Haven of Hope? Why not here with a group of average normal people who love their God? I say God if You can do it then and there then why not Here and NOW?

Some may say, “Why or how could God show up in Nowhere Philippi WV…” Well let’s look at Holy Spirit history in America… It was May 2, 1870 and two former slaves named Simon Seymour (also known as Simon Simon) and Phillis Salabar, who lived in Centerville Louisiana, had a son… They were just ordinary black folk who were freed from slavery and really had no special or supernatural qualities… Just regular folks like us! The two named their new born son, their first child, William Joseph Seymour… It was said that the family was beyond dirt poor… The dad had got malaria from the southern swamps after joining President Lincoln’s army to fight for his people’s freedom and the mother’s personal property was valued at 55-cents when she died…

William Seymour also suffered the injustice and prejudice of the reconstruction south. Violence against freedman was common and groups like the Ku Klux Klan terrorized southern Louisiana. So this 1-eyed Black man named William J Seymour who was from many different religions; his parents were married by a Methodist preacher, he was baptized by a catholic priest, and a Baptist minister preached his parents funereal. Seymour attended a black freedman school in Centerville and learned to read and write. He later became a Methodist preacher. Soon, however, he joined the Church of God Reformation movement.

God had healed Seymour from a near fatal bout with smallpox; the illness left him blind in one eye and scarred his face. But he wore the scars as hope that God brought him back to life for a reason… He would later find that reason as he walked into a converted warehouse where a group of believers were having prayer meetings!

The date was now April 1906 in that old empty warehouse located at 312 Azusa Street in the industrial district in LA, California… the Front page Headlines of LA Times read, “the fire of Pentecost comes to LA on Azusa Street” The believers said “the very atmosphere of Heaven had come down!” Revival from Acts 2 had hit the west coast in the United States of America… One reporter wrote, “That evening would be hard to describe. People fell to the floor as if unconscious; others shouted and ran through the house. One neighbor, Jennie Evans Moore played the piano, something she did not have the ability to do before. People were speaking in other tongues…” Over the next few days of continuous outpouring, hundreds gathered. The streets were filled and Seymour preached to the streets. In that old empty warehouse located at 312 Azusa Street in the industrial district in LA, California… In an unfinished building with a low ceiling, a dirt floor, (used as a storage building and stable) and mix matched chairs with wooden planks laid out for a prayer altar and two wooden crates covered by a cheap cloth became the pulpit. GOD SHOWED UP!

In a time when strict segregation was the norm in America, White and Black families sang and prayed and worshiped together… and A one-eyed black son of slaves stood up and called forth the power and the glory of GOD! And Fire fell from Heaven and within weeks the Warehouse could not contain the people! They came from the North, South, East, and West, every color, Black and White, Men and Women, and children alike! Revival Fire Fell… They spoke and sang in tongues of angels and saw healings and miracles…

Today over 600-million Spirit-filled Christians trace our roots back to that old empty warehouse, and a 36-year old William Joseph Seymour, and the Azusa Street revival…

Now, I say all of that to say this: If it happened there; then I ask why not here and if it happened then, then I ask why not NOW? When folks get together and are in one accord! No Separation by color, sex, or religious barriers… And we can say, “Let the 150 become 60 or 70… It’s ok the 3000 are waiting!” God’s Holy Spirit will COME in a Mighty way, Revival will pour out, and the Heavens will open up! Church, Greater days are ahead, be prepared and ready to be blessed…

Youth Attack

What a Great church Service Sunday… I believe that God has started a FIRE at our church for the Next Generation! Lately I’ve noticed that almost every news story or statistic that you read or hear in reference to today’s teens is So Negative.

Here are just a few stats I picked up:

70% of teens believe that a Christian is “someone who goes to church and reads the bible sometimes...” <> 900,000 teens are abused at home each year, 1 in 5 teens have considered suicide before the age of 18, 40% of teens have self inflicted injuries, 9 out of 10 teens have been exposed to online pornography… <> 57% of people who are unmarried and sexually active have an STD (50% of teens are sexually active), 1 in 4 female teens from ages 13-19 have an STD (oh yea 50% used condoms and still contracted the disease), HALF - One out of two sexually active youth will contract an STD by age 25., Nineteen (19) million new STD infections occur each year (almost half of them among young people ages 15 to 24)

And the stats go on:

Three in ten teenage girls (31%) become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20 – there are more than 750,000 teen pregnancies a year. Eight in ten of these pregnancies are unintended and 81% are to unmarried teens. In the US ¼ of high school females have been the victim of sexual abuse… <> 21% of our nation’s teen’s abuse drugs, Sixty-two percent (62%) of the nation’s high school kids – some 10.6 million – and 28% of middle school kids (2.4 million) will go to schools where drugs are used, kept, or sold. Nationwide, 25.4% of students had been offered, sold, or given an illegal drug by someone on school property during the 12 months preceding the survey. Half of teens (50%) have tried an illegal drug by the time they finish high school.

And the stats go on:

There are 3-million teens suffering from alcoholism in the US, Three out of every four students (75%) have consumed alcohol (more than just a few sips) by the end of high school. About two fifths of students (41%) have consumed alcohol (more than just a few sips) by 8th grade. More than half (58%) of 12th graders report having been drunk at least once in their life, One fifth (20%) of 8th graders report having been drunk at least once in their life.

And the stats go on and on and on….

In a Christian Nation (regardless what a selected few may say, history shows that the USA WAS Founded as a CHRISTIAN NATION!) Godly values and morality is unseen… A Humanistic philosophy has infected our society and it seems that a silent majority has taken a back seat to a minority of unbelievers. This minority group has succeeded in taking God out of the Public eye, Out of Schools and colleges, and out of Main Stream America… Christianity has become a joke to the Washington and Hollywood elite. As a result, every moral and ethical area of our nation has been declining decade after decade. And the church has set back and done nothing! In a Nation that: 80% confess to be Christians, 74% want public schools to display the Ten Commandments, 83% want students to say prayers at graduation ceremonies as part of the official program, 71% want the Bible used in literature, history, and social studies classes, 70% want daily prayer to be spoken in the classroom, and 70% want creationism taught in public schools… WOW, this is something you’ll never hear on CNN…

I feel that our Nation has been under attack for decades by the enemy (the Devil) and I say, “It’s time to take it BACK!” Today, I make a Public Declaration of War on Satan and all of his demons…Sunday morning at Haven of Hope several kids took the first step and became Spiritual Knights in the Lord’s Army -- Agreeing to fight for their generation… This next Generation is too important; we must not allow them to slip away from God’s destiny for their lives! Join them and me in this worthy fight to save the next generation, “A Generation Worth Fighting For!!!”

The Book of James

I have been studying the book of James for about two months now. WOW! What an eye opening experience… I said to a parishioner the other day that I feel like God has been dissecting me. This “Spiritual dissecting” isn’t a comfortable thing but it is necessary to perfect me through Christ. Let me explain; we are born with all of this sinful junk inside of us called “original sin.” When we become saved we still have sin in our lives, through salvation it becomes “Forgiven sin.” For many years now Christians have been taught to walk around pretending this sin wasn’t there. So instead of dealing with it we tend to hide it and pray that nobody ever finds it… Well eventually, what has been hidden is surfaced! Amen? The book of James teaches us how to deal with this sinful nature within ourselves and in others.

The book starts off by teaching us that when we are tempted, turn to God. (James chapter 1:1-27) Notice I said when we are temped not if. We are all tempted to do wrong, remember it’s our nature. The task at hand is to learn to destroy our nature and follow God’s Nature. James chapter two instructs us not to favor rich people over poor. WOW, what a lesson for today’s church! This chapter goes on to teach us that our actions demonstrate our Faith. Let me be very clear, our Salvation is FREE, Jesus paid the price for us, and you will NEVER have to work to earn your spot in Heaven. Just receive the Gift of Jesus from God the father. But it’s our day to day actions that will build or destroy our Faith and our testimony to others! Remember it is not always what you say but most of the time the true testimony comes from what you’re doing and who you’re being…

Next James teaches us how to speak wisely and the power of the Tongue….

James 3:9-12 God’s Word

9 With our tongues we praise our Lord and Father. Yet, with the same tongues we curse people, who were created in God’s likeness. 10 Praise and curses come from the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, this should not happen! 11 Do clean and polluted water flow out of the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree produce olives? Can a grapevine produce figs? In the same way, a pool of salt water can’t produce fresh water.

The biggest lie that the Devil ever sold us is the proverb that says, “Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me…” Over the past years I have ministered to so many individuals that had been attacked with words. Our tongue is like a two edged sword that slices both ways. Let’s learn to watch what we say and how we say it. The book of James goes on to talk about how to deal with each other and how to address conflicts in a Godly manner. And I love that way the book ends, by instructing us to be patient at all times.

James 5:7-9 God’s Word

7 Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. 8 You, too, must be patient. Don’t give up hope. The Lord will soon be here. 9 Brothers and sisters, stop complaining about each other, or you will be condemned. Realize that the judge is standing at the door.

I hope today’s BLOG has wetted your appetite to read the Book of James. But more so, I pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us and teach us to live God centered lives until we get to eternity!

Patience vs. Impatience

Have you ever noticed that when you feel like you’ve made it, or you feel like you finally got it together, all hell breaks loose? The Bible teaches many lessons about patience. Patience is described as a Spiritual Gift that can only be developed through trials and tribulations. A few synonyms for Patience are: endurance, staying power, stamina, open-mindedness, charity, serenity, and tolerance… It’s amazing that when we read about Patience and the total package that comes with it, we really don’t see the contemporary Christian Faith. We as Christians spend so much time picking out the faults and imperfections of our Christian Brothers and Sisters and so little time looking for good in everyone and finding God’s Will in each situation.

During times of stretching when were in the wilderness we are often fronted with different circumstances and situations that test our Patience. Remember: Patience can only be developed through trials and tribulations. I have noticed through my Spiritual walk, that it’s during these times that we are quick to take on different offences. Someone once said that the word offence literally means “Bait.” Think about it, the enemy uses offences to Bait us into a trap and lure us away from God and His Will for our lives. Offence is the antonym or the opposite of Patience… You see, when we are baited into an offence we do not have charity, Love, tolerance, or any other gift that is developed through patience.

Over the past month I have been involved in two different situations in my personal life that required patience and the gifts that fall under it. I would love to write a great testimony about how God just moved through me and how great I handled each situation. But, if I said that then I would be lying. I was baited into an offence and said things both times that I walked away wondering why. Saying to myself, “I know better than that!” Does this sound familiar? In both situations, I feel that the other person was at fault and I was right and my stance was Biblically correct, but my attitude was wrong. I have come to discover that, “all of the right in the world, with a bad attitude is just WRONG!”

Well for those of you who thought I was perfect, well you need to wake up, you have never been more wrong. But praise God for Grace! I have said many times that there was only one who was Perfect, Righteous, and Just; and they crucified Him! So my BLOG today is two-fold; first: don’t take the Bait in times of Conflict, don’t let the enemy trap you and lure you in… and secondly: when you stumble and fall (not if but when, no ones perfect) don’t beat yourself up over it or do not allow others to tear you down. Remember we all have imperfections, faults, and shortcomings, we all mess up, and occasionally we all choose to do the wrong thing or go the wrong way, or have a wrong attitude, amen? Let’s learn to give each other a break, and God will develop True Spiritual Patience in us, that we may be a light into the World and Shine before all men!!!

Local Church

I’ve been thinking about the LOCAL Church and her roll in our day to day Faith walk… The church was established to help Christian Brothers and Sisters deal with Daily problems Christ-like. The Bible says the Church was founded upon two basic principles;
Ministering, one to another.
Fellowshipping one with another.

Lately there has been a nation wide movement to destroy the Local Church and/or down play her involvement in our Spiritual walk. I have read internet BLOGS, national articles and different publications basically stating that we no longer need the Local Church!

I will stand and be the first to say this is False Teaching and couldn’t be more wrong! The book of Hebrews 10:25 says, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” I believe that the local church, under God ordained leadership, is necessary in the life of the Christian.

People ask, “Were there Local Churches in the New Testament?” YES! As you read the New Testament you will find that many of the Epistles were literal letters to a local church or local churches: Corinth, Galatia, Ephesus, Philippi, Colosse, and Thessalonica… Seven more churches were addressed in Revelation chapters 2 & 3: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea… Acts talks about local churches; an Example would be the Church at Jerusalem - Acts 8:1, Acts 11:22 and the Church at Antioch - Acts 13:1! I heard on Christian radio that some Christians now believe that the Internet is an acceptable replacement for the local church; this grieved me, because I know how wrong that is! One person said there is no real Jesus in church, I beg to differ, Jesus is in you and the church should be made up of you, so you are to bring Jesus to the church meetings… (If there is No Jesus at Church then maybe the problem is; you…)

Now, I understand that some folks are restricted to home due to illnesses and physically can’t get out to church, and this is the time when believers should bring church to them… And time and time again folks tell me about a Bad experience they may have had at church so that’s their excuse for not going to church… I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again “there is no excuse for not being part of a local church. Missing church or not being involved in your Local Church should be No Option! Find a Local Church and a Local Pastor and Get Involved… Be blessed by becoming a Blessing!!!

"Faith Lifestyle"

Hello All

We had a great Wednesday Night Bible study last night, I'm teaching a series on Faith Lifestyle... (James in the Bible) I talked about How due to a lack of “Faith lifestyle” (not a lack on Faith but a lack of “Faith lifestyle”) we become rollercoaster Christians… Up one day and bottomed out the next. It’s only a “Faith Lifestyle” that can stop this cycle. We have too many believers on this cycle and when their on the Mountain top it’s great but when they hit the valleys of life they fall apart. It’s the “Faith Lifestyle” that teaches us that “Location doesn’t matter!!!” David said, “If I make my bed in hell You are with me…” he also said, “I can walk through the valley of the shadow of death and You are with me…”

I believe God wants to take His people to a place of “Faith lifestyle.” Let me explain; Christian Faith is; believing in God and knowing Jesus is the Son of God etc… all of that is great but a “Lifestyle of Faith” teaches us; that the same Faith that “Knowing God is God,” is the same Faith that will get us through those long and hard times and days…

We can have Faith in end times and Faith in Heaven but can we have Faith that we know that God will make me have a great day TODAY regardless of circumstances… TODAY regardless of conditions… TODAY regardless of situations… That’s a “Faith lifestyle.” It’s more than just pretending to be Holy or Spiritual Deep, it’s more than just speaking out Faith words or verses, It’s more than just blogging some thoughts and trying to convince everyone that you’re a Faith person, Its more than carrying your Bible around or wearing Christian clothing or jewelry. …

It’s Living Day by Day by Faith - Faith that God will take you places each and every day - Faith that God will show you Great things each and every day – Faith that God will not only get you through but Faith that He will walk you from the beginning to end and even during the hard times you will have a Peace and a Joy that surpasses any and all understanding..

It’s that “Faith lifestyle” that the early Church walked in, it’s that “Faith lifestyle” that the Disciples and Apostles walked in… And it’s that “Faith lifestyle” that will take us to a realm where we will see Great things from God’s kingdom including signs, wonders, and miracles… the choice is ours, we can live the way we’ve been living and receive the same results or we can make a change in 2009 and choose to make our Lifestyle a “Faith lifestyle.”
